Generative AI in our recruitment process

Your guide to GenAI

We know that Generative AI (GenAI) tools, such as ChatGPT and Copilot, can be useful when applying for a role. When used well, they can support and enhance your application but relying on them too much can have a negative impact.

You should always be mindful of how you use GenAI. It can help you structure your response and proofread your application, it should not be a replacement for your authentic experiences. We want to know what makes you unique.

Your application

AI can positively impact your application by:

• proofreading your application and suggesting changes to grammar, spelling and tone of voice
• refining your answers, making them clearer and more structured
• analysing the job description to identify key themes or important areas to help structure your response

AI can negatively impact your application by:

• inflating skills and experience, which might lead to being considered for a role that is not the best fit for you
• providing generic responses as they’re taken from the public domain, hiring managers want to know about your personal skills and experiences

Your interview

AI can help you prepare for your interview by:

• generating example interview questions based on the role and industry, giving you a chance to practice your answers
• supporting your research, summarising key information about the NHSBSA, including recent projects and news, so you can tailor your responses
• highlighting current trends in your field, helping you connect them to your own experiences

You should avoid using AI at interview to:

• answer questions live, all responses should be genuine and reflect your own thinking
• inflate your skills, you should give an accurate account of your experience

Final thoughts before you apply

We’re committed to creating inclusive recruitment processes and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds who connect with our CARE values. Find out more about our CARE values in our NHSBSA strategy for 2024 to 2029.

We know that everyone is unique, and we value the experiences and perspectives each person brings. Providing an accurate account of your skills and experience helps us understand how you meet the criteria and fairly assess you during the recruitment process.

When you submit your application, you’ll be asked to confirm that the information you’ve provided is true and accurate. Make sure you keep this in mind when using AI, as inflation or misrepresentation of your skills and experience is not permitted and could lead to your application being rejected.
